It’s never too late to start taking care of your eyes. Indeed, visual health is extremely important to your physical and mental well-being. Even when you think you can see clearly, there could be still be potential issues that might hinder your eyesight at some point in the future.
At Elite Vision Care, we encourage you to schedule an eye examination with your eyecare specialist. Doing so allows you to obtain a better understanding of your current eye health. During an eye exam, a series of tests are conducted to examine certain aspects of your vision. This blog details some of the most important.
Visual Acuity Test
Various tests are conducted to measure one’s visual acuity or sharpness of vision. A distance visual acuity test is performed using a projected eye chart, while the near visual acuity test makes use of a small, hand-held acuity chart.
This test aims to find out whether or not the eyes work well together. The most common procedure involves the patient staring at a small object across the room while alternately covering each eye. This is then repeated but with the object near the patient. When the uncovered eye doesn’t move while trying to fixate, it could indicate a binocular vision problem.
An eye exam won’t be complete without a refraction test, which examines the eye’s ability to refract light as it passes towards the retina. It involves retinoscopy, a procedure that takes a look at the retina or the back of the eye for any refractive errors such as astigmatism, myopia and hyperopia. Corrective eyewear prescriptions are then provided based on the analysis.
Further tests may be conducted should you display symptoms of a vision-related condition. Your eye doctor would then formulate an eye care plan for you that would help manage the ailment.
