Elite Vision Care, a local eye center, strongly recommends getting comprehensive eye exams regularly. An eye exam gives us the opportunity to detect and treat eye diseases and other conditions at their onset. In addition, the exams are quick and painless. Here’s what to expect:
Checking Visual Acuity
First, your eye doctor will measure the sharpness of your vision by asking you to read letters on a chart. They will also rule out color blindness by asking you to take a few simple tests.
The eye doctor will then administer the cover test, which determines how well your eyes work together. Next is the stereopsis test, which assesses your depth perception, and a retinoscopy, which we use to determine your eyeglass prescription. Your doctors will then perform a refraction exam as part of your comprehensive eye exam to determine the exact prescription using a phoropter or an autorefractor.
Checking for Diseases
Your eye doctor will use a slit lamp exam to look at the structures of your eye under high magnification. This test can detect a wide range of eye diseases and conditions, even if the patient experiences no visible symptoms yet. Next, the doctor can perform a glaucoma test to measure the pressure inside your eyes, which might involve dilating your eyes to get a better view.
